Shaanxi's Xianyang rewards picking up cigarette butts |
In order to advocate the new spirit of civilization,Shaanxi's Xianyang municipal government encouraged citizens to pick up cigarette butts by launching the activity of one cigarette butt for five cents on Sept. 18.
Xianyang launched the "One Cigarette Butt for Five Cents" campaign beginning from the middle of September and thousands of people have participated in this activity so far. The Xianyang municipal government has received more than 7 million cigarette butts worth more than 100,000 yuan, according to Chinese Business View.
Fan Yunhe, a 63-year-old retired worker, participated in the activity. He picked up 500 cigarette butts and went to the Sanitation Office of Wujiabao Sub-district in Qindu District of Xianyang to inquire about the details of the activity.
To his surprise, he was rewarded 25 yuan with those cigarette butts. Fan picked up a total of 7,000 cigarette butts that month.
Currently, more than 100,000 yuan has been paid for recycling more than 7 million cigarette butts (some of the reward money has not been issued yet).
