Trial operations for this year's Taipei International Flora Expo are budding ahead of the event's official opening when it will burst into full bloom on November 6th.
Here, thread-noodles are draped from the branches of a willow tree. Common garden vegetables have been creatively transformed into elaborate works of art and beautiful housewares such as lamps. The material for making such lamps is also very unusual such as this one made of taro. If you look carefully, you can still see the taros' lines clearly.
A tour guide said, "The artist comes from Taitung county. He is a chef who has done a lot of research about carving on taros. After the process of desiccation, the artwork becomes a beautiful lamp like the ones in front of us."
These artists, who spend most time in their kitchen, are hailed as the greatest artists because they have the ability to transform common garden vegetables into splendid works of art.
A clock on display attracts many visitors' attention. Some ask the tour guide where to buy one.
A tour guide said, "This clock is crafted from bean curd, with a dozen different seeds to represent the hours on the clock's face."
Also on display, soap has been sculpted to resemble longan and bamboo shoots. But there's more than just food artworks here. Stunning utensils and crockery will also be showcased at the expo.
Young visitors can even draw pictures on the plates, creating their own piece of art. Daily throughout the five-month expo, there will be traditional performances to keep visitors entertained.
