Japan Travel Bureau (JTB) recent published a survey on 2011 tourism market. It is reported that the Japanese outbound travelers in 2011 will reach 17.3 million, increasing 3.7% compared with that of 2010, just 16.68 million. Due to the continued appreciation of the yen, the Japanese desire to outbound tourism has enhanced largely.
In addition, because of the internationalization of Haneda Airport, there have been more flight seats with an increase by about 21,000 seats, which is an important factor for the air travel demand. In particular, the flights from Haneda to Taiwan, China,Thailand and Singapore have been raised.
Survey data also show that, influenced by the short-term travel itineraries and yen appreciation, the expected outbound tourism consumption per capita amounts to 256,000 yen, down 1.9%. However, the number of outbound tourism has grown, so the total spending is estimated to reach 4.43 trillion yen, with an increase of 1.8%. Japan's total domestic tourism consumption will reach 9.72 trillion yen, an increase of 1.7%.
