At 9:50 October,30th, China Airbus A319 flight trail aircraft landed smoothly at the airport in Tibet Shigatse, which remarked Tibet's fifth airport officially opened to traffic.
Reporter learned from the Civil Aviation Authority of Tibet that Shigatse airport construction project is the plan of "Eleventh Five-Year". China government plans to invest 700 billion yuan to finish 188 key projects and the buiding of the airport is one of that with a total investment of 532 million. The Airport is located in Shigatse City , where the altitude is about 3782 m, 43 km from Xigaze city.
Shigatse Airport is the fifth airport after Gongga Airport Airport, Qamdo Bangda Airport, Millington Airport and Alikunsuo Nyingchi airport.
Xu Xueguang, administrative commissioner of Xigaze, said that Shigatse is the second largest city of Tibet possessing Everest, Tashilhunpo and the Sakya Monastery,etc. quality tourism resources with profound Tibetan culture. Furthermore, it has rich mineral resources. Xigaze has been limited by lacking of aviation and railways for quite a long time, which influences the economic and social development.
