Grape Festival
Since 1990, between April 20th and 26th each year, the Xinjiang people in Turpan have held their Xinjiang Grape Festival. Grape cultivation there dates back more than 2000 years there and the raisins and wine produced in Turpan are known for their lingering good taste.
Major activities at the Festival are: weddings in the Uygur style, mashlap (lively and humorous folk dancing), nazkum (witty performances), Koco-style song and dance, Hami-melon competition, and camel caravans reminiscent of the Silk Road more than 2,000 years ago.
