Day 1 Lhasa (D)
Arriving at Gonggar Airport (3,500 meters above the sea level), the local tour guide will meet you there and drive you along the Yarlung Tsangpu River and Lhasa River back to the city proper to check in the hotel. On the way you have chance to enjoy the Tibetan style villages and Nyetang Buddha.

Day 2 Lhasa (B+L+D)
In the morning, take a tour to the Potala Palace where the local government locates. It is the highest castle-style palace in the world. Visit the Jokhang Temple and the Barkhor Market. In Tibetan Buddhism Jokhang is also regarded as the center of the universe. It is a must sightseeing in Lhasa.

Day 3 Lhasa--Yamdrok-tso—Gyantse--Pelkor Monastery—Shigatse (B+L+D)
In the morning, you will venture to Shigatse via the coiling scorpion-lake of Yamdrok-tso (alt.4,441m, 14,570ft), one of Tibet's four holy lakes. From the Kambala Pass (alt.4,794m, 16,318ft), you will enjoy a bird's-eye view of the lake. After lunch, you will pass the Karola Glacier (alt. 5,010m, 16.404ft) and Simila Pass (alt.4, 330 m, 14,534ft) to Gyantse (alt. 3,950 m, 12,959ft). Upon arrival to Gyantse, in the afternoon you will visit Pelkor Monastery situated in the northwestern edge of the city. This monastery was founded in 1418, and is famous for its superb Kumbum Chode (translated '100,000 Images'). From below, you can see the 14th century fort on the hill featuring the Anti-British Memorial Museum. Then, a 100 km drive will take you to Shigatse (alt. 3,880m, 12,729ft), the second largest city in Tibet with about 40,000 residents.

Day 4 Shigatse (Tashilhunpo)—Lhasa (B+L+D)
Today, you will visit one of the six great monasteries of Tibet, the Panchen Lama's Seat, Tashilunpo Monastery of the Gelug Sect(Gelugpa). Built in1447 by the first Dalai Lama, it houses a giant statue of the Maitreya Buddha (the future Buddha), the biggest gilded statue of Maitreya in China, and the tomb of the 4th Panchen Lama containing masses of jewels and gold.

Day 5 Lhasa/Departure (B)
After breakfast, it is your own time to explore the city and then in the afternoon, we will transfer you to the airport and see you off. |
