ZhangJiaJie National Forest Park is the first established National Forest Park in China. It is famous for its large area of quartz sandstone physiognomy. It is of great natural aesthetic value and therefore selected as World Natural Heritage and World Geological Park by UNESCO.
HuangShi Village: It is named after a famous master, Huangshi Taoist, who lived here in seclusion. It rises 1,080 meters above the sea level. In fact, it is a vast platform, consisting of tremendous steep cliffs, covering an area of 16.5 hectares. The scenery is one of the elite routes, accumulating lots of wonders and interests, including Heavenly Books and Treasure Chest, Sea Calming Needle, Single Pole in the Southern Heaven, Golden Tortoise Popping over the Sea, and so on. There is a famous saying "He who does not reach the Huangshi Village does not pay a true visit to Zhangjiajie." Cable  cars are available for visitors to take up and down the village. A trail is also waiting for you to hike about five hours.
Emperor Mountain: Emperor Mountain, whose name originates from the uprising leader—Xiang Dakun-of Tujia ethnic minority group, is always enjoying the reputation as "the king of all mountains". The seas of clouds and mist are pretty splendid, especially when the skyclears after the rain.It has hoodoos and peaks, ravines and gullies surrounded all its directions except the north. The Emperor Mountain shows us varied beautiful scenes at dawn, noon, dusk, and night on a single day, so as in four seasons of a single year.
Golden Whip Stream Valley: The Golden Whip Stream, invigorating and refreshing, is named after the Golden Whip Crag. It covers a flowing stream of 7.5 km, about three hours’ walk. The stream zigzags its way through the valley, with flowers fragrance and birds singing, contributing to a serene and elegant ecological environment. The man scenic spots along the stream include: Mother Holding Her Child Crag, Great Writer Crag, Zicao Pool, Couple Meeting from Afar, and Leaping Fish Pond, to name just a few. The Golden Whip Stream is appreciated as the most beautiful valley in Aisa.
YuanJiaJie Natural Reserve: Yuan Jiajie Nature Reserve has the unparalleled scenic splendors of spectacular mountains and peculiar peaks. It is attached to Zhang Jiajie National Forest Park, but a core scenic spot of Wu Lingyuan Nature Reserve, with a total area of 1,200 hectares and an altitude of 1,074 meters. In this reserve there lies the famous First Bridge. This natural stone bridge, with a width of 2 metres, stretchs 20 metres across thin air between two peaks of 350 metres above the vally floor, forming a natural bridge arch. Moisture in the valley, steaming and evaporing; pines around the bridge, swaying and whistling, compose a majestic breathtaking view. Under the bridge, the valley is unpredictably mysterious. Undoubtedly, it is a unique natural miracle on earth.
Bai Long Elevator: Located at the core of Yuan Jiajie Nature Reserve, it is a famous sightseeing elevator in the world, and has won three honors in the highest height, biggest loading capacity, and fastest speed. It is the only available transportation vehicle from Water Surrounded Gates to the top of the Yuan Jiajie Nature Reserve. With a powerful grandeur and sophisticated design, it travels over 326 meters high and takes the visitors 1’58’’ to get to the top. The loading capacity can reach to 4,000 per hour. It was awarded among the Top Ten Sightseeing Projects at the 2005 Beijing International Architectural & Interior Design Summit and Grand Ceremony of the China Architecture & Interior Design Award.
Heaven Gate Mountain National Forest Park
Heaven Gate Mountain Park lies to the south of Zhangjiajie and it's only 10 kilometers away from the town .80% of it is covered with the forest, including the rare trees protcted by the state such as dove tree, fragrant fruit, Chinese tulip tree, etc .As the second forest park in Zhangjiajie, it features gorgeous mountain view.
It is the first renowned mountain in Zhang Jiajie kept in historical records. According to historical records, in 263 A.D. (the Three Kingdoms period), a cave in the mountain suddenly opened and was regarded as a lucky sign by the Wu Emperor Sun Xiu. He named the cave as Heaven Gate Cave, which later became the name of the mountain.
It rises 1518.6 meters above the sea level, standing out majestically at the outskirts of Zhang Jiajie downtown, only 8 km away. It takes the appearance of a natural screen and has become a  representative view of Zhang Jiajie’s natural scenes. Through the ages, Heaven Gate Mountain has caught the eyes of the world not only for its unique and mysterious geological features and unparalleled beautiful sceneries, but also for its learned and profound culture, and countless and colorful stories. It is respected as the soul of culture, and the soul of spirits in Zhang Jiajie. It is also regarded as the first fairy mountain by local people.
Among the splendid scenic spots of Heaven Gate Mountain, the Heaven Entrance—the highest natural karst cave-should be regarded as the most unique and extraordinary natural scenery. In 2006, the world aerobaticshowof Russian “Hero” jet fighters team was held in Zhang Jiajie, which made a worldwide hit.
Yellow Dragon Cave
It is in the list of the 35 elite scenic spots entitled by national travel administration. Ten thousand km2 has been developed. It is 7.5 km long and has a vertical rise of 140 meters. The inner recess is divided into four layers, two dry ones and two possessing waterways. The structure of natural wonders include: one natural reservoir, two underground rivers, three pools, four waterfalls, thirteen grand halls, ninety eight passageways. There are six major scenic spots in the cave, including Dragon Dancing Hall, Maze, Sounding River, Immortal Waterfall, and Heaven Pillar Street. The Yellow Dragon Cave is so complex and unfathomable, possessing such a multitude of geological features, that it is impossible to take them all in at one time. It is rare to see hundreds of thousands of stalagmites, columns, and stalactites in the karst cave at home and aboard. And geology experts draw the similar conclusion that Yellow Dragon Cave is the all round champion.
Baofeng Lake
Balfeng Lake is the masterpiece of nature and human beings’ wisdom. It lies in the Wu lingyuan District close to the world natural forest park. It is 85 meters above the ground and attains an altitude of 585 meters. With an average depth of 72 meters, it covers an area of 16 hectares and can hold 6 million cubic meters of water at full capacity. All the water is from rainfall and spring without any pollutant. It is pure just like a big crystal among Bao feng mountain Range. When you cruise, you can hear authentic song from Tujia minority people. You can fully understand the harmony and peace between human beings and nature. Use your imagination; you can see a lot of picturesque peaks and steep cliffs. You are just like traveling in a painting, completely intoxicated and fascinated. |
