It is reported that Hong Kong received 662,928 visitors from China mainland during the Spring Festival Golden Week, which created a new record for tourism visiting in recent years. The number of mainland visitors had increased 15.7% over the same period of last year. Especially on the day of February 7, there were 117,879 people went to Hong Kong, a brand-new record for single day trip.
James Tian, the chairman of Hong Kong Tourism Board said that most of visitors went to Hong Kong as "individual visitor", accounting for 67% of the total number. Among them, 20% visitors were Shenzhen residents with visa and 15% attended group tours provided by travel agencies.
James said that Forbes had listed Chinese New Year Festival as one of the top 10 worldwide important festivals. Hong Kong Tourism Board would take this great opportunity to reinforce Hong Kong's tourism image and develop Hong Kong tourism industry.
