Walk on Stilts, also called Binding the Feet, Stand on Stilts, is a popular folk performance, which is generally performed by the dancers with stilts binding on their feet. The performance requires the actors to stand on the stilts and make performance. Thus, the actors are taller than other people and can be seen in a distance. Since its flexible way of performance, it is loved by the local people.
Actors performing 'Walk on Stilts' wear costumes and heavy makeup and also dance and sing. Generally, they sing the local opera, such as the Monkey King, Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea and Water Overflowed the Jinshan Mountain. With different roles they act, the actors are different in costume designs. For Example, Monk Fahai in the Water Overflowed the Jinshan Mountain has a stilt of 4.4 feet high and the little monks have stilts of 2.7 feet high. However, the fish and shrimp soldiers have stilts of only 1.6 feet high.
