HanYangLing Museum,which is the Mausoluem of Western Han Emperor Liu Qi, locates in 20 kilometers north of Xian City. It was built in the year 153 AD and covers an area of 10 square kilometers (4,942 acres), 6 km from east to west and up to 3 km south to north.
The mausoluem is a magnificent and abundant cultural relic, comprising the emperor's tomb(Liu Qi), empress'tomb(Empress Wang), the south and north burial pits, ceremonial site, human sacrifice graveyard and criminals’cemetery. It is neatly arranged, centered with the emperor’s tomb, revealing the strict hierarchical social structure.
Tens of thousands of, which feature terra-cotta nude figurines and a variety of animals have been unearthed in the area. The Outside Pits Exhibition Hall was opened in 2006 and is the first underground museum in China.It is also the most intact royal mausoleum and the most important tangible document in the research of burial customs and civilization from this dynasty ever discovered. |
